Arlene advises clients on a board range of IP and business law matters, with emphasis on high technology patent law. She counsels domestic and international clients to define and execute IP strategies, manages IP harvest sessions for new products, manages multiple patent and trademark portfolios, ensures that assets acquired by client have adequate claim scope, and ensures that claimed subject matters are aligned with business goal. Arlene also counsels clients during the acquisition of IP rights and prepares opinions regarding commercial aspects of selected IP right.
As a patent attorney, Arlene drafts and prosecutes domestic and international patent applications in various technical fields (she has personally drafted over 800 utility patent applications). She also files and prosecutes reissue applications and participates in American Invents Act (AIA) post grant proceedings.
Arlene also manages multiple trademark portfolios, prepares and prosecutes trademark applications and assists her clients with presence and branding counseling.
In addition to patent and trademark prosecutions, Arlene prepares patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and invalidity opinions. She also performs acquisition due diligence analysis and draft and reviews licenses, contracts, and other IP agreements.
As a business counselor, Arlene guides her clients in starting up new businesses and in protecting assets owned by existing businesses.
Arlene has a wealth of industry experience, having worked as a senior software developer and analyst at Fidelity Investments and Agency Management Services and having worked as a software engineer at GTE Data Services, prior to her legal career.
